University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is responsible for managing two major hospitals in Coventry and Rugby, and provide more than 800,000 episodes of care to patients each year. The University of Warwick is a major research partner of the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire and they share their research with Warwick Medical School. Their current major research themes are metabolic and vascular medicine, reproductive health, musculoskeletal, trauma and orthopaedics and cancer. These are complemented by additional areas of clinical research activity within the Trust (e.g. cardiovascular disease, renal and respiratory medicine).

Coventry and Warwickshire Clinical Research Facility

The Coventry and Warwickshire Clinical Research Facility (CRF) provides the support and expertise required to conduct high quality experimental studies. They offer dedicated facilities and support to researchers undertaking early phase interventional studies (phase IIa and earlier), experimental medicine studies which are ‘nested’ within later phase studies and require specialised facilities, staff or equipment, high-intensity or high-complexity elements of later phase studies and early stages of testing new techniques or new medical devices Based at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, the Coventry and Warwickshire CRF recruits from a socially and ethnically diverse patient population of over one million.

The NIHR Applied Research Centre West Midlands (ARC WM) is a five-year initiative commencing in October 2019 with a mission to create lasting and effective collaborations across health and social care organisations, universities (Birmingham, Keele, Warwick) and local authorities to improve the services we can deliver for patient benefit.

National Reproductive Health Biobank

The Tommy’s National Reproductive Health Biobank is the first national biobank funded by the Medical Research Council and Tommy’s the baby charity. The biobank will aim to facilitate research in to pregnancy complications, by bringing together six biobanks that will all collect samples of high quality according to the standard operating procedures written by experts in the field of reproductive health.
